About me

Hi, I’m Daniele,
my painting is inspired by my emotions and the music I like.

About Daniele

Daniele Mancuso is a Swiss artist of Italian origin, his studio is based in Bellinzona (Switzerland). After years spent in the sky as a private plane pilot, he decided to put his feet on the ground but to continue flying through his art.

He began painting driven by an unstoppable need to express his emotions and to unlock his soul. The faces with rough but suffering traits, sometimes covered by layers of colours, are the expression of his feeling about social relations and life today.

What do the modern aircraft cockpit and abstract art have in common? We might say nothing, since keeping the former under control entails the mastery of and respect for rigid operational procedures, while abstract art, by its very definition, departs totally from all reality and is indeed the negation of all established rules, in favour of emotionality and the constant search for other realities with which to identify and, sometimes, even reconstruct oneself.

But there is a sort of polarity between opposites, a condition of complementarity whereby each of the two poles, although limited and opposed by the opposite pole, also finds in the latter its raison d’être and constitutive foundation, because one could not exist without the other and vice versa.

Daniele Mancuso, a former aeronautical pilot, is familiar with this dualism, since at the controls of an aircraft nothing can be left to chance; attention is always at a maximum and everything must be foreseen. On the other hand, when he is working on his works, his work is free to range and follow the impulses of the moment, the ideas that, with a free mind, become now colour, now form, now material layer. Daniele has been through difficult times in his life and art, as often happens, has always been a great support as well as a passion, transforming itself from a loophole to a therapy and becoming an autonomous language.

Based on spontaneity, his is undoubtedly an art capable of unhinging well-founded preconceptions and using them to its own advantage to undertake a visual reconstruction. Daniele makes extensive use of colours, mainly primary and pure colours, and layers. The meaning of each element is part of the research itself and the mixing of elements brings out another characteristic: the coexistence of several sensations within the same composition. There is still a connection with the real world, albeit in a particular way.

Daniele has two great companions when he is creating his works: music and the night. It is precisely in the silence of the night that fear, sadness and serenity are linked in a perfect symbiotic balance, while the music sets the rhythm of his thoughts. The finished work makes an impact on the soul of the observer through an alternating pathway between the philosophical and the poetic. No longer, therefore, through visual amazement, but through a profound and rational emotion linked to the unconscious and the hidden depths of the psyche.
